everyclick.com: Thirteen months in the year for charities

Howard Lake | 14 June 2006 | Newswire

Everyclick.com, the search engine that helps charity, is one year old this week.
Results to date suggest that this new and innovative fundraising facility could provide every charity with the equivalent of an extra month’s donations each year for free. Regular users of everyclick.com have already generated over £16 for the charity of their choice simply by switching their searching habits.
Research by the Charities Aid Foundation suggests that the national average donation per charity supporter in 2004 was £14.17. The £16* that each regular user of everyclick.com generates means that potentially any charity could increase their revenue dramatically just by encouraging their supporters to use everyclick.com as their search engine of choice. It does not cost the charity or the supporter any money.
The founders Polly Gowers and Julia Felton, have been nominated for the Jaeger-LeCoultre Telegraph Business Personality of the Year Award. This award is looking for business people who have put time and effort into the community and left the comfort zone of a salaried position to start out on their own. They may have overcome disabilities or given their money and time to working with charities and local communities. Both of the founders have put their homes on the line to fund everyclick.com.
Polly Gowers, Managing director said It is great to see that what we set out to do is coming to fruition. As more and more people use everyclick, the amount raised for charity can only increase. It is so simple, why not search the web and benefit the charity of your choice. At times we have questioned our sanity at taking on such a daunting task – but it is just so worth doing. Search is a powerful and growing marketplace, we hope that we have created a solid foundation which ensures it can also be used as a 21st giving facility.”
Since launch in June 2005, the site has signed up over 1,200 charities, over 180 corporate supporters, and has 17,000 registered supporters.
One user said: The best thing about everyclick is that I only need to make a small shift in the way I search and shop for things online to make a difference. and I can choose which charity benefits!”

* How we allocate money to charities
everyclick.com, launched in 2005, allocates 50% of its revenue to charity each month. Each listed charity receives a percentage of that revenue equivalent to the proportion of its supporters’ use of everyclick. The revenue generated by everyclick website users that do not select a specific charity will benefit all charities listed, on a pro rata basis. See everyclick.com for further details.
