UK Fundraising launches new newswire service

Howard Lake | 4 June 2006 | News

UK Fundraising has added a new service to allow news releases about fundraising to be added instantly to the website. The service is available to fundraising PR agencies, charity PR staff, and PR staff from fundraising agencies.

The new service ensures inclusion on UK Fundraising of fundraising-related news releases, irrespective of whether we actually cover them as a news story or not.

It has been developed using an open source blog tool, so becomes UK Fundraising’s fourth blog, and its first multi-author blog.

Registration is required to use the newswire service. After approval from the moderator, which can take a few minutes or hours, news releases can be published live into the site.

The top five news headlines on the newswire also appear on the front page of UK Fundraising, underneath the five current news items, about 60 minutes after they are posted.

All news releases are automatically distributed in RSS format, meaning they can get picked up on other blogs very quickly, on blog search engines and even on other sites that publish the “feed”. Indeed, UK Fundraising encourages other sites to carry this feed on its pages: if you do so, do let us know.

In due course there will be a fee to agencies and for-profit companies to use the service, but we shall not be charging charities. Meanwhile the tool is available at no charge to explore and test.
