New social networking site for events fundraising

MotivatingMates.com is a new social networking website which has been set up in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales to help people with similar interests link up and take part in sporting events and activities, often with a fundraising element.

The site is designed to help users encourage each other to achieve their goals.

It was set up by Nicola Morgan after her experience trying to take part in Sports Relief in 2006. She told Welsh technology news website PingNews: “Last year, I wanted to take part in Sports Relief, but I had no one to go with and I ended up not going. That’s how the idea of this website came about. There are an awful lot of people out there who want to try new activities but can’t find someone to share them with.”

The British Heart Foundation is one of over 80 organisations that are using the site. Morgan added: “Organisations are realising the benefits of the website, and have registered to encourage more people to take part in the fundraising and social activities they offer.”

At present Morgan, a primary school teacher, runs the site in her spare time. Current plans include making the website bilingual.
