Essex University receives funding for fundraising

The University of Essex has received government funding of £180,000 over three years to help it develop its fundraising activities.

The university is one of 27 higher education institutions to receive the funding from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) which is designed to promote voluntary giving from individual donors. Seventy eight organisations applied for the funding.

Essex University will match the funding each year to help its development team increase the number of donors and donations to the university.

In particular the money will fund an Annual Fund Officer to develop its existing Annual Fund, and a Major Gifts Officer, both within the Development and Alumni Relations Office.

Under Dominic Boyd, Head of Development and Alumni Relations, the University will embark on a sustainable fundraising programme using direct mail, telephone appeals and email, and will host a number of events.
