IBelongUK offers new charity affinity shopping portal

Howard Lake | 6 May 2006 | News

iBelongUK is a new shopping portal listing around 600 retailers which will donate up to 15% of the cost of each transaction to the shopper’s nominated cause.

Participating merchants include Marks & Spencer, Tesco, John Lewis, Eurostar, Thomas Cook, and British Airways Holidays.

As with other charity shopping portals, users access the retailers’ sites via the portal and pay the same price for items as other online shoppers. However, iBelongUK claims it is different because a further amount, equal to the same percentage of the transaction paid to their chosen cause, is paid into the shopper’s iBelong account. They can then take this as cash or exchange for other goods and services from iBelong-affiliated retailers. Or they can choose to donate these additional funds to their nominated cause.

In addition iBelong has partnered with Google to offer a web search facility which will generate further funds for charity. IBelong says that it will distribute 50% of the commission it receives from Google for searches generated via the site to charities registered with it.
