Sight Savers International re-launches its website with staff around the world now in charge of content
Sight Savers staff, including those with visual impairments, in up to 18 different countries around the world will be responsible for their own content on the UK charity’s new website. The site, complete with a new content management system and a fresh new look, was officially launched this week. The top priority for Sight Savers, which works in 33 countries restoring sight and preventing blindness, was to improve the site’s accessibility and overall user experience, while at the same time, enabling staff both in the UK and overseas to add their own content as easily as possible.
One of the main challenges was finding a content management system that was easy to use and suitable for people with visual impairments and moderate internet connectivity. As an organisation that works to improve the lives of those that will never see or who have low vision, it was essential for Sight Savers to re-design the site to meet the highest standards of accessibility. To do this a content management system called Rhythmyx, supplied by Percussion was implemented by technology company Unified Solutions in collaboration with the Sight Savers’ in-house web team.
Matt Blake, Web Manager at Sight Savers said: ‘We have managed to combine a fresh new look with high accessibility. Now Sight Savers staff across the globe can feel they share ownership of this resource and help ensure it has all the latest news and information for our donors, supporters and casual surfers.’
New and improved features include:
