CAF responds to Brown's tenth Budget

CAF welcomes the Chancellor’s announcement this afternoon that HM Treasury will undertake a review into the future role of the third sector in social and economic regeneration.
Particularly welcome will be the large scale consultation with the sector that will help shape the priorities of all Government departments.
Gordon Brown announced the creation of a new Office of Charity and Third Sector Finance to be established in HM Treasury to provide strategic, coordinated engagement across the range of third sector issues.
CAF’s Chief Executive, Stephen Ainger, commented: In his speech the Chancellor made reference to Gift Aid and Futurebuilders and we trust that the work of this office will not undermine the real progress that has been made over the last few years. This has helped make the UK one of the most constructive environments for charitable giving anywhere in the world.
CAF supported the announcement in the pre-budget report which unveiled a scheme to enable unclaimed assets to be reinvested in society. The scheme is still in the early stages of design but we welcome it and trust that the funds made available will be for reinvestment across the broad scope of the sector’s activity, reflecting the origin of the funds.
