Alnwick Garden offers tea in a treehouse with a Duchess on eBay

The Alnwick Garden is offering on eBay the chance to buy the Garden’s marquee together with afternoon tea for four in one of Europe’s largest tree houses, to be hosted by the Duchess of Northumberland.

Bidding for the marquee and treetop tea will start on 21 February and will be open for seven days. The organisation is accepting offers in the region of £6,500. Proceeds from the auction will be reinvested into The Alnwick Garden Trust, the registered charity that owns and manages The Garden, to aid the project’s continued development.

The afternoon tea will take place in The Treehouse, an enormous wooden structure of turret-topped ‘cottages’ and suspended walkways which appears to float around 16 huge lime trees and reaches up to 60 ft high. Inside is a restaurant, with a huge open log fire.

The Duchess of Northumberland, trustee of The Alnwick Garden Trust, said: We are selling the marquee to make way for a new Pavilion and Visitor Centre, which will be opening in the spring. Now that we no longer need the marquee we thought that eBay would be the perfect channel to sell through and we are excited to see how the auction ensues. I am also looking forward to having tea with the winning bidder.

The successful bidder must arrange for collection of the marquee within seven days of the sale. A five tonne flat bed 20′ truck is recommended, along with a number of strong people to help with loading.
