The Funding Network close to raising £1 million

Howard Lake | 3 February 2006 | News

The Funding Network, set up four years ago by a group of givers who wanted to broaden their ciricle, is set to pass the £1 million makr in donations generated when they meeting on 18 March at their next Funding Day.

So far the Funding Network (TFN) has raised £980,383 for 180 projects. Four years on, there are now TFN events in the South West, Scotland, Cambridge and Toronto as well as London.

At these invitation-only events, individuals committed to giving get to hear 8-10 charities present their work in six minutes each and have a chance to question them.

Individuals inspired to help can do so on the spot, either during the lively open pledging session or through an anonymous pledge. Gifts range from £100 to several thousand, but there is no obligation to give.

Charities interested in a future slot are encouraged to ask a supporter or trustee to attend on their behalf, rather than a member of staff, as TFN asks that attendees should be at least potential donors.

One TFN member explains the attraction of the events: “The funding events offer an opportunity to stop awhile and engage with what giving is about. I get a simple buzz from being able to contribute a bit.”
