Action Planning announces CEO strategy conference
Action Planning, ACEVO, and Charity Finance Directors’ Group are partnering to hold strategy conference for Chief Executives of charities. The event is designed to tackle what the organisations call the ‘planning gap’ and help charity leaders develop and implement “inspirational strategic plans”.
‘Delivering the Vision’ will be held on 8 December 2005 and some 200 chief executives and members of senior management teams have registered already.
Most charities now produce some from of strategic plan explains Simon Craft-Stanley, Director of Strategic Consultancy at Action Planning but in the vast majority of cases, the plan stays firmly on the shelf and is never implemented.

“We will be focussing primarily on developing really practical and effective processes for implementing plans – and examining the key roles which should be played by the CEO, Fundraising Director, Finance Director, Operations Director, HR Director and the other members of the Senior Management Team”.
The speakers at the full day conference include:
- Charity Commission Chief Executive, Andrew Hind, on the strategies used by successful charities to adapt to a changed funding and regulatory environment.
- Cass Business School – Professor Jenny Harrow, who will present five case studies on how successfully to implement strategic partnerships and mergers.
- Action Planning’s Strategic Consultancy Team – on how to fire the imagination of the team and develop practical processes for ensuring the plan is delivered
- Charity Finance Directors’ Group – Chief Executive, Shirley Scott, on the role which the Finance Director should play from the inception of the plan, including key inputs into risk management, lead times on budgeting and the use of costing techniques across the organisation to achieve effective cost control
- Case studies – including Neville Kyrke-Smith, Director of Aid to the Church in Need (UK), on international implementation, David Ellis, Chief Executive of CLIC Sargeant, on managing a successful mergers, and Roger Northcott, Chairman of Windle Trust International on developing a strategic planning process.
The attendance fee is £125 including VAT and lunch.
