The Royal Bank of Scotland and Compass Group UK & Ireland have won the 2005 Companies & Communities Awards, hosted by CAF (Charities Aid Foundation).

The Awards recognise UK companies that are shaping the future of corporate community investment. The Awards are divided into two categories, Effective Giving which seeks to recognise companies with effective giving programmes, and Innovation which targets companies that have implemented a campaign or project that is particularly innovative, resourceful or original.

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) won the Effective Giving award for its wide-ranging and integrated community investment programme. Among its charitable activities, RBS improves employee personal development by linking its volunteering scheme to the appraisal system.

The winner of the Innovation award was Compass Group UK & Ireland, the contract catering company. The judges were impressed with the Group’s Junior Chef’s Academy programme which helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain an insight into the hospitality industry. The 15-week course teaches them about hygiene, nutrition, and health and safety.
