Businesswomen's charity seeks charity of the year
Sweet Charity, set up by a group of women working in business, the media and the arts, is inviting applications from small, low profile charities to be their beneficiary charity for 2006.
Announcing their initiative on Smartchange.org, Sweet Charity explained that, since 1999, it has raised over £130,000 for its selected charities. These have included Children with AIDS Charity, Refuge, The Theodora Trust Clown Doctors, Cancerkin, and Winston’s Wish.
Sweet Charity has two aims: to create a relaxed environment where women can meet and network, and to raise money for a different, small, low profile charity each year.

Applications are invited from charities which meet the following criteria:
- Annual income of less than £1m per year
- Supporting an issue that is specifically relevant to women
- To support new or additional work rather than to fund core costs
- A desire to work in partnership with Sweet Charity to leverage the maximum benefit from its efforts
Sweet Charity make it clear that this is a genuine partnership, rather than simply a matter of making a donation at the end of the year. Evidence of experience of such partnerships would probably help an application’s chances of success.
Applications should be made by 27 October 2005.
