Charities to learn how to sell themselves better to companies

Howard Lake | 19 October 2005 | News

A new fundraising workshop which teaches charities how to ‘sell’ themselves to potential coroprate supporters is being run by Charities Aid Foundation for the first time in Birmingham.

The “Consultative Selling” course in November aims to help charities become more successful at corporate fundraising. The course covers how to target companies and explains which sales techniques to use in certain situations and how to meet both charities’ and companies’ goals.

The workshop shows delegates how to identify and secure sales opportunities and “how to think and act consultatively with potential funders”. Delegates will get to practise sales’ techniques during the day through role playing.

Jenny Maydon, Charity Relations Manager at CAF, explained the reason for the course. “Many charities fail to gain support through corporate fundraising because they don’t take time to ask the company what they want out of the relationship. Charities are far more likely to be successful if they ask a company what they would like to gain from the partnership and then offer a solution that benefits both parties.”

The workshop will be held on 16 November 2005 at 138 Digbeth, Birmingham. Places cost £100 per delegate and include a buffet lunch.
