RNLI to benefit from end of Southend pier on eBay

Howard Lake | 12 October 2005 | News

The destruction of Southend pier in a fire has yielded several bits of the pier being auctioned on eBay, including one reportedly to raise funds for the RNLI.

The “genuine piece of charred wood from our beloved Pier”, about the size of a hand, was sold for £21 after 16 bids. The charity element garnered coverage from Essex FM News and the BBC Essex Breakfast Show.

The seller used her sale page to apologise to anyone who thought the sale in poor taste in light of the people who had lost their businesses following the fire.
