MPs support National Giving Week

MPs representing 14 constituencies throughout the UK have pledged their support for National Giving Week later this month.

Launched to raise the profile of charitable giving across the UK, National Giving Week 2005 runs from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 October.

The theme for the second annual week is ‘Make more of a difference’. The campaign urges donors to ensure their giving is more effective, challenges companies to get more involved in their communities, and encourages small and medium-sized charities to make more of their fundraising.

MPs have been approached to help raise the profile of charitable giving, following results from last year’s National Giving Week which found that donating to charity is not a priority for the British public. On average, households spend three times as
much on tobacco, and three and a half times as much on alcohol than they spend
on donations to charity.

The 14 MPs promoting the week are drawn from Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat ranks.
