March of Dimes creates blogging community for volunteer fundraisers
Louise Cook of the Fundraising Technology blog reports on a blogging community created by US nonprofit March of Dimes. Volunteer fundraisers and supporters are encouraged to share their thoughts and experiences via a blog.
Cook finds the personal stories compelling: “reading the blogs themselves is an extremely emotional experience”, she says, “as parents express their feelings in a way that few fundraisers, advertisements, or leaflets ever could.”
“How could anyone not want to make a donation as a result?” she asks.

Cook argues through her blog that UK charities should catch up on the value of blogging and blogging communities. To do so would, however, mean a change in the way charities think about events and campaigns. Instead, she recommends “give people a space to be passionate about your cause.”
