eBid's stance on Live8 tickets 'justified'

Howard Lake | 14 June 2005 | News

Bob Geldof’s complaint that Live8 tickets were being auctioned for private profit on online auction site eBay has prompted rival online auction site to point out that it had already banned the sale of these tickets.

EBid, launched in the UK in 1999, said that it had banned the sale of Live8 tickets from its pages before Bob Geldolf’s “outburst”. The decision was made even before the closing date for text entries had passed.

“Since tickets have become available we have removed 55 auctions containing Live8 tickets. We predicted this problem and had alerts setup in our software from Sunday evening. It was a bit of a no-brainer,” said Mark Wilkinson, Marketing Director of eBid.
