Musicians' Benevolent Fund Awards for under 18s open

Outstanding young instrumentalists are invited to apply for the Musicians’ Benevolent Fund Awards for under 18s, worth up to £1,000 each.

Applications can be made towards the costs of buying an instrument, private music lessons or fees (and occasionally travel expenses) for the junior departments of the principal music colleges in the UK.

Individual awards are likely to range from £300 to £1,000 for the 2005/06 academic year and the total amount available for distribution will be in the region of £100,000.

Applicants must have reached the level of ‘distinction’ in their most recent practical examination by a recognised musical examining body and parents/guardians of applicants should be able to demonstrate financial need.

Applicants should be British or Irish or their parent(s) should have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least three years prior to the closing date for applications.

Application forms can be downloaded from the MBF website.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 17 June 2005.
