Cambridgeshire charity wins national new media award

Cross Border Arts’ Funky Flamingo Club Project has won the Digital inclusion (disability) award at the eWell Being Awards held in London.

The Cambridgeshire-based charity works within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to promote the use of arts. It won the award category for projects that enhance ICT access and services specifically for disabled people, and beat three other short-listed organisations.

Edward Wing, Chair of the Trustees, welcomed the award and used it to appeal for more funding: “This award… shows what can be done with the limited budget we have available but imagine how many more disabled young people we could help if we had more financial support. Our lottery grant from the Arts Council ceases in September and we are urgently seeking financial help to keep the project going. We are obviously grateful to our partners such as the Arts Council, Speaking Up, The Junction, Cambridge City Council Cambridgeshire County Council and South Cambs District Council, who have supported us, but we need help to secure our future now.”

The 2004 UK eWell-Being Awards were developed by SustainIT and sponsored by BT, Vodaphone and Brother with The Guardian. They aim to promote best practice and demonstrate the social and environmental benefits of ICT, although the emphasis is on the results of the project, not just the technology.
