Abbey offers additional £100,000 to Northern Ireland charities

The charitable trust of financial services provider Abbey is making an extra £100,000 available over the next two months to fund projects in Northern Ireland.
Abbey’s Charitable Trust provides donations throughout the year to charity-run projects that support disadvantaged people in the UK.
To dispense the additional funds in Northern Ireland, Abbey is asking for funding applications of between £5,000 and £20,000, for projects that fit the Trust’s priorities of supporting disadvantaged people through:

- local regeneration projects which encourage cross-community partnerships;
- education and training; and
- financial advice which helps people manage their money.
Charities can apply for funding by writing to Abbey’s Charitable Trust at PO Box 911, Milton Keynes MK9 1AD. The closing date for applications for this extra funding is 29 April 2005.
Decisions on applications will be made in May, and are made by Abbey’s Community Partnership Group for Northern Ireland, whose members include local Abbey employees, retired staff, and representatives of local community groups.
Alan Eagle, Manager of Abbey’s Charitable Trust, will be welcoming applications from a wide range of organisations. “This is a great funding opportunity for charities working in Northern Ireland,” said Alan. “The Trust has already given over £170,000 to local projects in the last two years, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer increased opportunities.”
The extra funding available to Northern Ireland is part of a programme of funding boosts in areas where Abbey has a significant presence. Sheffield, Bradford, Glasgow and Camden all benefited from similar programmes in 2004.
