Comic Relief raises funds from calls to BT's directory enquiries

BT is donating 5p for every call to its directory enquiry service made between 28 February and 13 March 2005 up to a maximum of £250,000.

Callers to the BT 118 500 will hear a welcome message recorded by comedians Lenny Henry and Alistair McGowan. BT will donate 5p per call to Comic Relief.

This isn’t the first time that a BT telephone service has generated income for Comic Relief. For Red Nose Day 2003 the communications company let Lenny Henry become the voice of the Speaking Clock for a fortnight. More than 4.5 million people dialled 123 to hear the comedian tell them the time “at the third stroke…”, raising £200,000.
