Justgiving reports 75 pages set up online for tsunami appeals

Online fundraising service Justgiving reports that 75 fundraising pages have been created by individuals and organisations to raise funds in response to the Asian tsunami and earthquake disaster.

Justgiving has so far handled £500,000 of online donations to tsunami-related appeals. The average donation has been £70, more than double the site’s usual average of £32.

One of the most successful tsunami appeal pages set up so far has been created by an American blogger who has used his blogging network to raise almost $30,000 online so far for World Vision.

A range of individuals and organisations have used Justgiving’s services. Companies setting up fundraising pages for their employees include Ecademy’s appeal for the British Red Cross (income so far is £11,937.59) and TEFL’s appeal for Care International UK, which has raised £2,846.46 so far.

Gareth Slee has set up a striking viral appeal focusing on the scale of the disaster, and links it to a Justgiving donation page. That has raised £752.56 so far.
