The three-hour event is being broadcast across Canada by a range of TV and radio stations. Canadian Forces Radio and Television services will also broadcast the concert live to Canadian troops in Kabul, Bosnia, the Golan Heights and the Sinai.
The event’s website is already taking donations online.
A similar telethon will be broadcast in the USA on Saturday 15 January. Tsunami Aid will feature actors such as Kevin Spacey, Halle Berry, George Clooney, Andy Garcia, Lucy Liu, and Natalie Portman, together with musicians including Madonna, Sir Elton John, Nelly, Usher, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, and Eric Clapton. Funds raised will be donated to the American Red Cross.
Viewers will be encouraged to donate via the telephone and online during the show. Performances from the show will be available afterwards for download and purchase from Sony’s Connect music store to add to the funds raised.
