Clinton welcomes Apple's tsunami appeal online
Former US President Bill Clinton has welcomed IT company Apple’s use of its website to promote giving to the Asian tsunami appeals.
Speaking on CNN’s Larry King Live, Mr Clinton praised the swift actions of companies such as Apple and AOL who used their websites to promote charitable giving to the emergency appeals.
Apple first featured the appeal on its front page on 27 December 2004. It lists and links to many agencies who are appealing for funds. It is also handling online donations itself on behalf of the American Red Cross. The donations are handled using Apple’s iTunes music download service: “100% of your donation will go to the American Red Cross” say Apple.

Apple UK and Ireland’s site also features a front-page promotion of the appeal on behalf of the British Red Cross. However, supporters are directed straight to the British Red Cross’s website where they can make donations direct to the charity.
Mr Clinton is working with former President George H. W. Bush to raise private donations from the US people to the emergency appeal.
