VSO seeks fundraisers for overseas volunteer posts

International development charity VSO is trying to recruit fundraisers, not to fundraise for the charity in the UK, but as volunteers to work with overseas non-profits.

The charity recruits skilled professionals to spend up to two years working in some of the world’s poorest countries, where they will share their expertise and knowledge with local colleagues.

Placements vary between countries but in Ghana, for example, a fundraising officer is needed for a membership organisation that exists to share learning and ideas on best practice in relation to income generation and
market positioning. The volunteer is needed to help develop fundraising proposals for the organisation, train local colleagues in fundraising skills and business management and create networking opportunities between members.

The average age of a VSO volunteer is now 38; and almost a quarter of all available jobs are for business and management professionals.

VSO volunteers must be prepared to live and work at a grass roots level and will be provided with a basic living allowance and accommodation of a similar standard to their local colleagues. Volunteer also receive training both before they depart and when they arrive overseas, return flights,
medical insurance, National Insurance contributions and a financial grant on
their return.
