Retailer TK Maxx’s GiveGet campaign has raised more than twice as much as expected for Cancer Research UK.

The company encouraged customers to clear out their wardrobes and donate unwanted items of clothing. Almost 43,000 bags were donated in September, worth an estimated £1.28 million to Cancer Research UK.

TK Maxx initially aimed to raise £500,000.

Other income is being raised through the sale of a limited edition book of photographs featuring celebrities such as Liam Neeson, Elijah Wood, Jamelia and Minnie Driver, shot by photographer Jason Bell. TK Maxx is donating all the profits raised from the sale of the book, which works out at £6 per book.
