Hospice lotteries "regularly played by 1% of UK population"
A recent study by UK lottery service provider Sterling Management Centre Ltd has revealed that at least 1% of the UK population regularly plays hospice lotteries.
The research, conducted across 65 hospices in the UK, identified 610,000 people playing their local lottery on a weekly basis.
Richard Dixon, Sterling’s Managing Director, said: “We were amazed to discover what a large role the hospice lottery plays in the UK market. Bearing in mind the figures only reflect the success of our own clients, the actual number of players may be considerably larger still.”

The study was carried out to mark the 2004 Hospice Lotteries Association Conference, for which Sterling was the primary sponsor.
Hospice lotteries have been growing since they were first marketed in the early 1990’s. Nearly a third of UK hospices now operate a successful fundraising lottery scheme.
