Amnesty receives £1 million from the Roddicks

Amnesty International UK (AIUK) has received a donation of £1 million from Dame Anita Roddick and Gordon Roddick towards the organisation’s new Human Rights Action Centre.
The donation is the latest contribution to AIUK’s capital appeal to fund its new Human Rights Action Centre. Anita and Gordon Roddick will donate £500,000 worth of shares to Amnesty International UK this year, and match this with a similar donation next year making a total of £1m donated.
Amnesty purchased the premises at New Inn Yard, London EC2 for £4.6 million in November 2002 following a search lasting more than five years. The human rights organisation plans to move from its two existing office premises in Islington to the new building in late 2004.
