Sponsored runners return to parking fines

Howard Lake | 5 July 2004 | News

Runners in Sunday’s Race for Life sponsored run in Cambridge in aid of Cancer Research UK returned to find their cars had incurred parking fines of £60 each.

According to the Cambridge Evening News, about 20 vehicles in the car park next to The Boathouse pub in Cambridge received £60 fines during the race. At least one runner raised less in sponsorship money than the fine.

The pub manager who handed out the fines pointed out that there were prominent signs warning of fixed penalties for misuse of its parking spaces. However, he did agree to donate half of the fines to Cancer Research UK.
