Charity Commission announces Wales office team

The Charity Commission has announce the
appointment of a team of nine to lead charity regulation in Wales.

The staff are all Welsh recruits and will be based at the charity regulator’s new office in Newport, Gwent. They bring experience from government, the voluntary sector, business, teaching, IT and journalism.

The team is led by Harry Iles, formerly Assistant Director for Gwent Association for Voluntary Organisations (GAVO). Harry’s experience at GAVO included advising groups who succeeded in raising over £6m for community projects. Harry also set up Wales’ first Village Halls Forum and co-ordinated the Network, a forum and ideas platform for
voluntary organisations.

The Commission’s first office in Wales was announced on 1 April 2004. The new office
builds on the work of the Welsh Charities Unit that was based at the Commission’s Taunton office.

The full Welsh language version of the Charity Commission’s Web site, which features regional and keyword charity search functions for Wales’ 11,000 charities, will be launched shortly.
