Oxfam raises funds online from downloaded music

Oxfam has launched what it claims is the world’s first charity music download site to raise funds.

At bignoisemusic.com you can download from a choice of 300,000 tracks and 10p from every pound spent on the site goes directly to Oxfam, with songs costing from as little as 75p each.

The site is a partnership with OnDemand Distribution (OD2), the digital distributor of music, which is providing the backend technology, licensing and billing. It already provides digital download services for HMV, Coke, MSN and Tiscali.

Oxfam has received support for Big Noise Music from the music industry from record labels, artists and managers. Artists have provided exclusive tracks for the site, launching with Coldplay and George Michael as well as competition prizes such unique gold discs and digital music players.
