MobileDonator’s new service lets charities offer their donors a way of giving between £1 and £10 using the Bango service.

Donors can choose to give in this way when responding to an advertisement, poster, radio appeal or telethon, or whatever other tool the charity uses. Donors just have to text ‘go mobiledonator’ to 87121 to receive a
special message that directs them to the MobileDonator site. They then choose the charity and amount they’d like to donate.

Charities including the NSPCC, SCOPE, War Child and Islamic Aid have already signed up for the service, say MobileDonator.

“People can now make spontaneous small donations in response to an appeal from the convenience of their mobile, in the same way as putting money in a collection tin,” said Neil Matthews, managing director of Gateshead-based MobileDonator. “We make it easy for charities to set up text-based donations without the cost or complexity of doing it for themselves.”

MobileDonator chose to partner with Bango because the latter ensures that payments can be made on any mobile network by any
mobile handset with a choice of different ways to pay. MobileDonator then forwards the donations directly into the charities’ bank accounts to reduce any manual administrative work.

Charities using the service can track results with an access-controlled area on MobileDonator’s Web site.
