Emotional support charity Samaritans will be holding its 50th annual fundraising week from 22 to 29 May 2004.

The charity is encouraging supporters to fundraise by taking time out with a friend to put the kettle on and make a donation.

The ‘Time for Tea’ fundraising initiative is part of a year long celebration of Samaritans 50th anniversary. ‘Time for Tea’ activities and other events will be taking place throughout the UK, during Samaritans Week.

Samaritans relies on individual donations for 96% of its income.

Samaritans Community Fundraising Manager, Murray Lindo, said: “On one level, ‘Time for Tea’ is designed to be an enjoyable fundraising event, asking people to get together and have a cuppa. On another level, ‘Time for Tea’ represents our belief that people are stronger together, and that even a humble cup of tea, can provide a valuable moment for communication.”
