Coined the phrase, bought the t-shirt. Well, we haven’t, but you can buy an “I Eat Chuggers” sweatshirt online if you want.

Like it or not, “chugger” has entered the lexicon as a less than complimentary term for the face-to-face or direct dialogue street fundraiser. Short for “charity mugger”, it’s a useful shorthand for the many newspaper reporters who have run scare stories about the high profile and evidently successful method of regular donor recruitment.

While it doesn’t do the fundraising profession, the word is funny, so we were amused to spot an anti-chugger sweatshirt for sale. It is yours for $25.99. In fact, it was spotted by “The Raizer”, the back-page gossip and wag at Professional Fundraising magazine, who this month kindly provided the Web address for those wishing to buy one.
