Voluntary organisations better at accessible Web sites

An analysis of the accessibility of UK organisations’ Web sites find that voluntary organisations are more likely to offer accessible sites than public or private sector organisations.
SciVisum checked 111 Web sites of UK organisations that say they comply with Web accessibility standards, and found that 40% failed to meet these standards. Central government Web sites were the worst offenders, with 53% of them failing. The Web sites of local government and private sector organisations were nearly as bad, with 50% of such sites failing. Voluntary organisations had the best record, with only 24% of sites failing.
The most common failure, found on 68% of sites, was the lack of any textual equivalent or caption for graphical content.
