GuideStar UK’s website celebrates 1st anniversary as a leading social enterprise delivering the best intelligence on the third sector.

Born a year ago today with the launch of the free public website www.guidestar.org.uk, GuideStar UK will be delivering a raft of initiatives over the coming months in order to meet the demand from numerous sectors to add value to its data.

The free public website has had 13,260,231 hits since launch and over 25,000 charities have made use of the ‘Update my Charity’ facility, which allows them to enhance their charity entry. An average of 1,200 trustee annual reports and accounts are uploaded onto the site each week, and to date, over 3 million pages of annual reports have been catalogued by the sophisticated search engine.

GuideStar UK is also pleased to welcome David Brocklebank as its new Chief Executive. David, who has been working at the cutting edge of web and IT technology since the internet was invented, has been with GuideStar UK since September.

This is a very exciting time to be joining the young GuideStar UK, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of using our intelligence to revolutionise the way people understand the third sector in this country. We are also looking forward to working with a wide range of organisations who share our ethos of delivering innovation

GuideStar UK’s income generating activities will be used to support its main charitable objective of providing a free public website which aims to become the ‘MySpace’ for charities as well as developing new web applications for new sectors including grantmakers and professional advisors.
