npower to support Macmillan Cancer Relief for two years
Macmillan Cancer Relief has secured a two year corporate fundraising partnership with energy company npower, the title sponsor of the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show.
Npower made a £200,000 donation to kick-start the fundraising. Macmillan will be its exclusive charity partner for 2004 and 2005.
Npower’s fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Relief began on 10 March 2004 at the npower stand at the Daily Mail Ideal Show with a rowing machine contest with donations made for every meter rowed on press day, and Mother’s Day massages at the npower stand on 21 March.

Andy Duff, Chief Executive Officer of RWE Innogy, the parent company of npower, said:
“We exceeded fundraising targets for our last charity partner, Childline, by raising around £500,000. I very much hope we do the
same for Macmillan.
Npower’s plans to support Macmillan Cancer Relief this year include:
- The npower 500, a 500 mile, month-long, non-stop fundraising walk with “I’m a Celebrity” star and ex England cricketer Phil Tufnell. The company hopes this alone will raise over £250,000.
- fundraising support of The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on 24 September, Macmillan’s flagship event now in its 12th year.
- fundraising and headline sponsorship support of the week-long Macmillan Miles Challenge in May, encouraging people to undertake a personal challenge for a mile and get sponsored for doing it.
Ten npower employees are taking part in the London Marathon this year for Macmillan. Each runner will raise a minimum of £1,700 to participate. - the Peak Challenge – staff individuals or teams will hike 35km over 15 peaks in 48 hours for a minimum sponsorship of £500
- a network of “Community Champions” across RWE Innogy and npower’s 34 sites will fundraise at local level
- staff volunteering and secondments
- payroll giving
- cause related marketing initiatives. For example, npower’s Health Through Warmth
home referral scheme donates £5 for every referral and has raised £11,500 in the last six months so far.
