Woodland Trust runs its Christmas card recycling scheme again

Howard Lake | 14 January 2004 | News

The Woodland Trust is running its Christmas card recycling scheme this month for the third year in partnership with WHSmith and Tesco.

The scheme, which last year recycled 40 million cards, the equivalent to 800 tonnes, aims to encourage individuals to recycle their old Christmas cards by leaving them in the special recycling bins in WHSmith High Street stores and Tesco stores across the UK throughout January 2004.

This year the Trust has teamed up with Rethink Rubbish to promote the scheme. SCA Recycling and Severnside Recycling collect and recycle the cards.

The scheme also enables the Trust to access funding from two sources, donated recycling credits from local authorities, and landfill tax funding. Cleanaway, a waste management company, has supported the Christmas Card Recycling Scheme for the last five years donating £570,000 in landfill tax funding.
