$5,000 civil society audit essay competition

Howard Lake | 16 December 2003 | News

Research charity Centris has announced a $5,000 prize for the best 3,000-word essay on community development.

The essay prize should address the question: “What is effective community development and how do you know it when you see it?”

As part of an audit of civil society, researchers from Centris have found
that, although community development has a long history, it has never become fully established because there is little agreement about what it is, what are good practices, and how can outcomes from the work be measured.
