Vodafone Foundation funds Solicitors Pro Bono Group

The Vodafone UK Foundation is providing three years of financial support to The Solicitors Pro Bono Group for their LawWorks for Community Groups project.

The donation of £50,000 per year for the next three years will help ensure that participating lawyers can share their expertise and skills with small charitable organisations and communities nationwide.

The announcement follows news that Vodafone’s own in-house lawyers have for some time engaged in a long-term LawWorks programme to supply small charities and voluntary groups with a variety of legal services free of charge.

Lola Emetulu, Assistant Company Secretary for Vodafone Group Services, has worked on various projects within the scheme including work for the Rockingham Estate Play Association (REPA) in South-East London. Lola’s volunteering has already saved the organisation nearly £7000 in legal costs.

LawWorks for Community Groups was created to give basic, non-contentious business law advice to small charities and voluntary groups who could not afford much needed legal advice. Solicitors Pro Bono Group Chief Executive Susan Bucknall said: “What’s particularly impressive is that Vodafone has not only donated a fantastic amount of money, but staff are also taking an active part in the scheme. We hope Vodafone’s example will encourage more in-house teams to work with us.”

The Solicitors Pro Bono Group, founded in 1997, is looking for trained solicitors to volunteer for projects whilst asking small charities and organisations to contact them if they need legal support.
