Lib Dem MP calls for 'long overdue' charity law reform

Howard Lake | 23 September 2003 | News

The Liberal Democrats joined calls for charity law reform yesterday when Mark Oaten MP welcomed the proposed legislation.

Speaking at the Liberal Democrats Conference in Brighton Mr Oaten praised the fact
that the new legislation would have a ‘light touch’ and not be too ‘heavy handed’.

The Charities Bill Coalition has pressed the government to fulfill their promise to publish a draft charities bill as soon as possible and hope that the legislation will be mentioned in the Queen’s speech in November. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) have published a road
map to reform which would ensure we have a new Charities Act by 2005.
