DEC's Liberia Crisis Appeal raises £500,000 on first night
The Liberia Crisis Appeal, launched by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) on 12 August, raised £500,000 in credit card donations from the public on its first night.
The donations followed televised appeals by actor Ross Kemp. Twenty thousand calls were received with an average donation of £30. Almost £50,000 was raised via the DEC’s Web site on the first night.
DEC Chief Executive Brendan Gormley said: “The appeal has raised half a million overnight, which means that we are on target for our first one million.”
