Charity Commission publishes report on charity mergers

Howard Lake | 6 May 2003 | News

The Charity Commission has published a regulatory report on collaborative working and mergers by charities.

The Commission’s latest regulatory report examines the nature and extent of joint arrangements, uses case studies to illustrate different perspectives and makes recommendations for change.

The Commission’s survey found that 22% of all charities currently work collaboratively according to our survey, and 5% of charities exist as a result of a merger in the past ten years. In the past 10 years 13% of large charities have either merged or actively considered a merger.

The Commission’s regulatory reports have been introduced “to strengthen best practice and accountability” by publishing the findings of broadly based studies of themes and issues that affect the charity sector.

The report “RS4 Collaborative Working and Mergers” is available for free download from the Charity Commission’s Web site in both PDF and HTML formats.
