Applications are now being accepted for the third round of BT Community Connections, the nationwide community award scheme designed to help communities get connected to the Internet.

The BT Community Connections Award scheme was first introduced in October 2000 to help bridge the digital divide in the UK. Each award, worth approximately £1,000, consists of an NEC multi-media PC and a contribution towards 12 month’s internet subscription.

In its second year BT invested a further £1.2 million resulting in over one thousand community groups receiving an Internet-ready PC in the first two rounds of 2002. By the end of round three next year, over three and a half thousand community groups will have been connected to the Internet under the programme.

To apply for a BT Community Connections award, community groups need to demonstrate how they would use the Internet in an innovative way to benefit the lives of local community members. The deadline for the final round of the award scheme is 28 February 2003.

You can, appropriately enough, make an application online at the BT Community Connections Web site.
