Charity direct mail increases by 5%

Charities sent about 266 million items of direct mail in 2001, a five per cent increase on the previous year.

According to the Direct Mail Information Service, charities’ accounted for 7.2% of all consumer direct mail by volume in 2001. This was more than utility companies (5.6%). The charity sector ranked fourth by volume, behind the financial sector (35.3%), mail order firms (13.6%) and store card providers (9.9%).
