Second International Fundraising Workshop held in Crimea
The UK’s International Fundraising Consultancy (IFC) and the Ukraine’s Centre for Philanthropy are building a fundraising programme across the former Soviet Union.
The Second International Fundraising Workshop under the motto “Fundraising is a two way road” was held on June 4-8, 2002 in Crimea, Ukraine. The IFC and the Centre for Philanthropy were assisted in the workshop by the National Guild of Fundraisers (Russia), UNHCR office (Ukraine) and the NGO Resource Centre “Crimea Perspective” (Ukraine).
This four-day practical workshop gathered together 90 representatives of NGOs, state agencies, international development programs from 9 countries of the NIS (CIS): Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrguzstan,

Russia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and also from Britain, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
John Baguley and Jasvir Kaur, directors of the IFC, provided fundraising and management perspectives which included strategy, major donor fundraising and applications to international funders.
John Baguley said “It was remarkable how far delegates had developed since we ran the first workshop last year. With the Centre for Philanthropy’s strong monitoring and evaluation work we are developing a fundraising programme across the former Soviet Union. The IFC is currently in negotiations to run workshops in Moldova, Armenia and Khazakstan.”
The IFC intends these workshops to become self-sufficient in the medium term, and to evolve both Fundraising Institutes for the participants as well as closer links with a “peace corps” of European fundraisers. Participants were encouraged to adopt and adapt the fundraising techniques that will ensure local income in the long term.
