Survey announced on use of Quality Systems in the voluntary sector
The Quality Standards Task Group (QSTG), in partnership with the Charities Evaluation Services (CES) have announced plans to publish extensive research on the impact of quality systems on the voluntary sector.
Quality Systems models, which are designed to help organisations run and perform better, are already widely in use in both the public and private sectors.
The research is being carried out by The Center for Voluntary Action Research at Aston Business School. The first stage will be the publication of a literature review by the end of the year. The research is expected to

have been completed by the end of 2003.
It will include:
- Literature review of information already available;
- In-depth research with 30 voluntary organisations;
- Questionnaire surveys of another 300 organisations;
- 6 case studies of organisations’ experiences;
- Consultation with funders
Bridie Sullivan, QSTG Project Manager said: “There is increasing external pressure on voluntary organisations to demonstrate the quality of their work. By obtaining reliable evidence of quality systems in action, we will gain a better understanding of how they can be used in the voluntary sector
and how we can promote their wider use.”
Voluntary organisations, both those with and without experience of using quality systems, are invited to join a stakeholder group which will be consulted at various stages in the development of the research.
