A UK charity has received £50,000 from a legacy after American lawyers found their Web site.

The Wiltshire Community Foundation has received £50,000 after American lawyers acting for a deceased donor came across their Web site. The lawyers were looking for a charity that met the requirements of their client’s bequest.

Christine Galko was born in the Kennet area of Wiltshire but moved when very young to the USA. In her will she left $75,000 to “the poor and needy in Kennet.” The lawyers searched online for an appropriate recipient and came across the Wiltshire Community Foundation.

The Foundation was surprised at how they came to benefit from the donation, but have set up a Named Fund in memory of Christine.
