Nonprofit Online News seeks donations

Nonprofit Online News, Michael Gilbert’s excellent free e-mail newsletter, is seeking donations from subscribers.

Nonprofit Online News offers a weekly selection of key news items from Michael Gilbert, the non-profit technology expert. Gilbert’s various online publications have studiously avoided accepting paid advertising to maintain their editorial independence.

For the first time Gilbert has asked subscribers whether they might consider making a small donation towards the publication’s costs. “Over the last four years” writes Gilbert, “a great many of our subscribers have asked us if there were any way they could support us since it was clear that we didn’t take any advertising revenue. Until now we didn’t have an answer.

“Starting today, you can support Nonprofit Online News with a completely voluntary payment. If you are interested in supporting us, the minimum commitment we ask for is six dollars a year.”

Gilbert suggests that subscribers might view supporting the publication in the same way that US donors support commercial free radio or television. Subscribers can of course donate online or make a pledge online.
