Total charitable giving to US non-profits reached $203.45 billion in 2000, representing 2% of US gross domestic product. The figure was announced in the latest edition of GivingUSA, published by the American Association of Fundraising Counsel Trust for Philanthropy.

Total charitable giving to US non-profits reached $203.45 billion in 2000, representing 2% of US gross domestic product. The figure was announced in the latest edition of GivingUSA, published by the American Association of Fundraising Counsel Trust for Philanthropy.

Donations by individuals made up three-quarters of charitable contributions, donations by foundations amounted to 12%, and companies donated 5.3% of all contributions.

The figure of $203.45 billion represens an increase of 6.6% on the previous year, or 3.2% when adjusted for inflation.
